On a more personal note

Have you ever met someone who said something like, ‘Ever since I was 6 years old, I always knew I wanted to be a (occupation)’?  

Yeah, that wasn’t me.

I’ve served as a business and life coach for adults with cognitive disabilities, taught High School English overseas, counseled youth-at-risk, worked construction, and baked, cooked, and managed a professional kitchen. I even spent one soul-crushing year as a Public Servant that I don’t want to talk about.

Professional writing snuck up on me

While attending culinary school I wrote a paper that earned me an A+. It also became my first published (and paid) writing gig. That’s the moment I rediscovered my love of language and writing. I’ve been writing ever since.

While my roots are in southern Ontario, I call the Pacific Northwest home now.

When I’m not at my keyboard I spend most of my time in a cabin in the woods, but not in a Unabomber kind of way. Married and childfree, you can find me* either hammock surfing with a book, in front of a movie or TV screen, on (or in) the water, refining my butter tart recipe (it’s a Canadian thing), or developing my guitar calluses, usually with a Vizsla underfoot.
