Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.” ~ Warren Buffett

How much will my writing project cost?

Good question.

The definitive answer is, it depends.

That’s because each project is unique and requires different amount of work, depending on the complexity and scope of the project. Having said that…

No one likes surprises, especially when it comes to pricing. Listen, I’m an entrepreneur - I know how important your bottom line is to you. That’s why most of my clients prefer a per project cost estimate upfront, before starting the job. That means you pay for the work delivered, not how long it takes to complete it.

So, how much will your project cost?

Here are a few sample price ranges for typical projects to give you an idea of budget:

Sometimes you need a project completed ASAP. I get it. Life happens. I try my best to make myself available for those stressful times by pausing my other work and that requires an up-charge (50% of total project cost) for rush jobs, so I can help you can meet your deadline.

Or, perhaps you need help pushing your manuscript past the finish line?

I can help with that too.

I offer editing services that include:

Developmental editing

Need guidance writing your story/book/info product? Or perhaps you’ve finished your masterpiece and simply need fresh (objective) eyes to let you know if your draft ‘holds together’. Developmental editing focuses on the ‘big picture’. Structure, theme, story arch, point of view, etc. and gets you closer to completing that final draft.

100-120/hr.

Line editing

If you already know your draft holds together and is structurally sound, it might be time for line editing. A line edit focuses on your voice and style. I can help identify repetition, awkward phrasing, ‘telling’ versus ‘showing’, passive voice, highlight any inconsistencies, and flag other trouble spots.

50-80/hr.

Sounds good, Mike. How does it work?

I’m glad you asked.

Of course, each client is different, but typically it goes something like this:

1.     We set up a time to talk about your project details over the phone – the scope, your target audience, budget, timeline, etc. If it feels like we might be the right fit for one another, I’ll…

2.     …sharpen my pencil and provide you with an estimate to fit the budget, scope, boundaries, and timeline of your project.

3.     If we agree and you want to get started, a 50% deposit is due to begin work (33% for larger projects) and then I get to roll up my sleeves and dig in to your manuscript.

4.     Depending on the nature of the project, we may set up a time(s) to review the material to make sure we’re on the same page, so to speak. If so, I carry on to completion. If not, we recalibrate accordingly and move forward.

5.     Upon completion, you review the manuscript. If required, my fee includes 2 minor edits/revisions.

6.     Upon completion and emailing the final draft Word Doc to you, the remaining balance is due and, Voilà! You’re all set to publish your fresh content! (While I’m not a graphic designer, nor do I play one on TV, I do know some talented people if you require design or formatting expertise.)

If this calls to you, let me know and let’s see if we may be a good fit for one another.

It’s a free call. It’s no pressure.
